What is this course about?

Conflict occurs in every organisation, yet the majority of staff do not know how to handle it effectively. Without the confidence and skills to address issues at an early stage, conflict is often ignored and allowed to grow, leading to loss of morale and low levels of team and individual performance.

By equipping staff with the skills and tools to manage conflict effectively, organisations will save significant time, energy and money. This course will give staff a deeper understanding of conflict and equip them with practical tools to help identify, manage and resolve it.

There will be plenty of opportunities throughout the day to practise and receive individual feedback in a fun and relaxed environment with support from your experienced trainer.

Who should attend?

This one day course is perfect for anyone who is required to deal with a conflict situation at work or in their personal lives. It incorporates strategies for both internal staff and external client conflict management situations and attendees typically include supervisors, team leaders and managers.

Whilst we have designed this course to cover a comprehensive range of skills and strategies relating to conflict management, we understand that you may have specific areas you wish to target within your organisation. Aims

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Explore the 5 divergent conflict management styles
  • Identify your own conflict management style and how this affects decision making in a conflict situation
  • Identify and be able to recognise major triggers and warning signs leading to conflict
  • Practise key communication skills, tools and techniques to help in de-escalating conflict situations
  • Confidentely apply these strategies to manage a conflict situation

Structure

What will we cover?

Your day will start at 9:15 with refreshments and registration, ready for a 9:30 start.

The morning session will cover:

  • The 5 divergent conflict management styles
  • Identifying your own conflict management style
  • Understanding the impact of your own style on decision making
  • Recognising major triggers
  • Identifying warning signs leading to conflict

A catered lunch provides an opportunity to network with the trainer and other delegates in a more informal setting.

The afternoon session will cover:

  • The role of communication in managing conflict
  • Tools and techniques to de-escalate conflict situations
  • An opportunity to practise de-escalation techniques
  • Confidence building for conflict management

Your day will conclude by 16:30. You will receive a certificate to confirm completion of the course and a helpful booklet with a range of skills and techniques to build on your experience.

What can I expect?

Clive and Carol from Star Training

You can expect a fun, relaxed, but results based session. Your facilitator will guide you through the day using exercises and activities in pairs and small groups, role-play games and practical exercises. Groups are kept small to give you the maximum opportunity for individual attention.

You will receive personalised feedback and coaching throughout the day and this will all be underpinned by interesting theory, tips and techniques to ensure that you get the most out of the session. Our intention is that you will have fun during the day, but leave the course having practised a range of strategies and with the knowledge to approach your next conflict situation with confidence.
